It's bad.
It started out okay. I definitely had to rewind when I noticed the Obamas were the executive producers. Even though I don't like their politics, I put that aside and hoped for the best. I'm not one of those people who won't watch a movie or a project because I don't like the actor or person's politics.
The first hour or so was pretty good, and very suspenseful. I admit.... I even drew my curtains. I saw a plot developing and I was excited about where it was going.
But then it was like they just decided to see how quickly they could turn a 180 and destroy any credibility and ground work they had laid in the front half to build this up to an outstanding film.
The back half is just hot garbage. I saw the first red flag when Ruth is laying in bed saying you shouldn't trust white people.
Say what? Where did that come from? :::insert pointless racism here:::
The mom dances with the other dad (not her husband) and for some reason, they act like they want to sleep together. Then the husband/dad is somehow sort of hitting on young Ruth, and she's talking like this weird reverse Mrs. Robinson.
Nothing is ever resolved and the daughter of the original vacationing family is so obsessed with Friends that she ostensibly deserts her family during what I can only assume is nuclear war, but it's NOT LIKE THEY EVER TELL YOU OR EVEN ATTEMPT TO signal what's going on.
God, this movie is trash. Hot, utter garbage. Stinky, putrid trash.
The Obamas are bad politicians but they're even WORSE producers.
Man, that was SO bad. They should stick to politics. And yeah, I see some reviews talking about missing the larger picture and learning some lesson about our own self destruction and humanity. But the thing is.... I wasn't sitting down to watch a movie about self discovery and realizations about humanity. I just wanted to watch a suspense flick. 🤷🏼♀️
