Every once in a while, a gripping drama comes along that packs a plethora of emotions in each of its episodes with slick editing, nearly crafted character arcs, and cinematography that deserves high honors. Kaala Pani practically writes the book on the fine art of storytelling. Each of its characters are so well-etched that the casting crew deserves full praise for picking fine actors to do justice to their roles. Relationships and bonds form the foundation of this show - bonds between between man and nature, between families, between strangers, between urbanites and tribals, and between people on the chain of survival. While the show does employ the tested theme of Nature and those close to Nature knowing best, the storyline does not suffer from it. In large part, this is because the plot forces us to confront difficult truths, make tough choices, and realize that us viewers are as much a part of this story as the many characters in it.
Needless to say, the setting of A&N islands is breathtaking in every way, terrifying and beautiful at the same time.
This show is mandatory viewing for anyone who appreciates excellence in television.
