I didn't expect anything spectacular given that this movie was on Netflix and I hadn't read about it being in any cinemas here. That being said I just found the whole thing a bit flat and pointless.
Three main characters with no real character development. The Dutch girl and the German soldier have a link in the movie so that provided some subplot development and context to other developments in the movie. The story of the British soldier was completely aloof from the main thread of any other main character interaction in the movie. The only interaction is in the last few minutes of the movie where all three are in the same scene together very briefly, albeit one of them dead, don't speak and just go their separate ways.
As for the historical context of the battle of the causeway etc that the movie depicts there is a much better 45-minute documentary that is available and is excellent.
I walk away from some movies feeling satisfied and with the thought that I might watch it again sometime. With The Forgotten Battle, I walked away thinking 'Well, that's one movie I don't want to watch again.
