Now I know why this is an ever-present in any greatest films poll. Unique in its telling of a mind-shifting odyssey of time-travel,conducted by Scientists underground on a man,selected for his memory of an image. This would be their starting point in an effort to move away from the toxic atmosphere post World War 111. Illusory maybe but their ability to retrieve him meant that ,paradoxically, it could be made permanent. At least that's how I read it ! Loved the stunning stills and the score whilst the voice of James Kirk is hauntingly beautiful. Chris Markers La Jetee.. An absolute work of Art and a must-see for any true fans of film

Tarkovsky,with a fairly low budget, has given us something that is a work of art ;a film worthy of its status irrespective of genre. 2001 is a film of human destiny whereas Solaris is a film showing what it means to be human. It's easy to see why Tarkovsky didnt see any link between the 2. I'll leave details to the film reviewers +I dont wish to give any spoilers...suffice to say I I highly recommend it.A stunning piece of work

Despite the obvious Franco references, I delighted in seeing through the eyes of the astonishing Ana(Ana Torrent). Victor Erices debut is considered by many critics to be Spains greatest film. The patterns of the beehives,tended by Ana's father, are replicated on the windows of the house.When a travelling cinema comes to town screening Frankenstein,Ana becomes obsessed with the monster..The film works on many levels and the dreamy atmosphere makes for compulsive viewing.Utterly charming and wonderful
