Hauntingly beautiful, lyrical writing. A wonderful first novel that I didn't want to put down.

Absolutely five-star, or more if that is possible. I was fascinated and enthralled constantly, and 'gobbled' up every page. The writing is in such a fluid, chatty style that it would inform everyone, even those with the least amount of scientific knowledge. I note that it was published in 2004, and wonder if there is an updated version maybe? There have been so many new discoveries over the last sixteen-odd years that they might even fill another book. I hope Mr Bryson is hard at work already! Thank you for the hours of pleasure your book has given me.

Wow, what a book! Totally different, unique and so interesting. I enjoyed every page and was in turn amused, sad, intrigued and stimulated. A sad ending but ..... Rachel Joyce is a marvellous writer and deserves all possible accolades.

Without doubt a five star read. Beautifully written and immensely moving., a book never to be forgotten. Cant wait for her next one.
