I bought the book because of the delightful prose I heard on Radio 4. She writes beautifully [and I learned a few new words] but reading it was hard-going. Difficult because she holds back no punches and I was sometimes drained at chapter end from the knowledge I had gained. Global warming may - or may not - need to be reckoned with [strictly my opinion] but I do see our frivolous use of plastic everything is filtering down to a molecular harm that will take us to our knees; where we should perhaps spend time reflecting on our role as a virus destroying the only planet we happen to have.
