There's a certain level of story-telling that is often okay for a Netflix feature but that would otherwise have me wanting my money back from the theatre.
The effects may be decent, the actors may be A-listers like Clooney, the concepts explored might be interesting in and of themselves. But often the story arc is more like the story hill. We don't doubt that the underlying conflicts will be overcome, and when they are, the resolution is not moving. The plot obstacles were either predictable or unimportant. And whole stretched of the story could be removed without them mattering.
This is the case for The Midnight Sky, an interesting but unsatisfying story of a man seeking to save humanity after nuclear armageddon. And with this film, I'm left wondering what message I will take away after seeing this. Or will I remember this movie at all? In a short time, probably not.
This is a bit of a snooze, and although there are themes that could be interesting, it's not a film I would recommend to a friend as a "must see". Two stars for decent acting, set design, and effects.
