Sonic is a great Family movie! I have been through this rollercoaster before the beginning like a lot of Sonic fans; wanted a movie as a child before there was even a cinematic movie! Then the announcement came and a few months/years went by without a word; then there was a word that the release date estimate was going to be pushed back and I was like "Ok". Then the movie was sold to Paramount and I was like "Ok". Then the first trailer came out and I didn't care what the plot was or even the fact that Jim Carrey was Eggman or that Ben Schwartz was Sonic; all I cared was the original horiffic design that Sonic the Hedgehog had. Then they said a bit after that they were going to fix it. Then the second movie trailer came out and I was pumped with excitement. The movie while not a perfect translation of videogame to movie, it is still a great family movie in my personal opinion and it translates well from the Gaming Console to the Big Screen!
