One of the most underrated shows of all time. I love Modern Family, but here are a few reasons why this show is better. 1. Relatability: In Modern Family, they are always going out on vacations, and enjoying Jays very fancy house, and all of that. But for anybody who doesn’t have a rich relative, this show is way more relatable. Despite being grounded in a lower class Family, we traverse through a wide variety of fun concepts and locations. We even got a few good vacations (which occurred from things like winning contests, as opposed to just being rich) 2. No drop in quality: If you look at a long running sitcom, it will have a drop in quality. Like Modern Family, which had a pretty bad last 3 seasons. But The Middle, which had 9 whole seasons, never had a drop in quality. I mean, yeah there were bad episodes now and again, but the last 2 seasons are still really solid and enjoyable. 3. The Humor: Yes, Modern Family can be hilarious. But a lot of its humor is just misunderstandings. The Middle had excellent humor, in a variety of ranges. Plus, it brought on tons of relatable outlooks on family from many different perspectives: the youngest, middle, and oldest children, the naggy mom, the laid back dad, the popular one, the weird one, the optimistic one, the older people, the younger people, the young adults and teens. And yeah, that doesn’t sound so impressive, until you realize all of those perspectives are just the 5 characters. And they all manage to give funny and relatable musings from their viewpoint in the family. 4. The Plots: A lot of Modern Family plots follow the formula of: spouse gets annoyed by something other spouse is doing, they struggle to tell them, the tension erupts, and they reconcile. Granted, there were many episodes that weren’t like this, but it still happened too often. But in the Middle, you rarely see a repeated formula (besides episodes that repeat formulas for comedic purposes, like the Mother’s Day episodes). These plots have things people of all ages can relate to, whereas you have to be an aging married couple to relate to almost of the plots on Modern Family Like I said before, I love modern Family, but this episode is way better and deserves recognition
