It didn't give me the chills like The Hobbit films did when first produced, but that's because this is open water. So far, I'm invested. It's slow to start, but most high fantasy stories are. These are fresh characters that haven't been through it all yet, minus Galadriel. I am loving the hobbits and dwarves and Elrond as a young, hopeful elf has be hooked.
People are complaining about lifeless characters for the elves, but if you understand the life of an elf, you'd understand why they are. Living centuries kind of desensatizes you to a great many things so this is how I would think elves would act. Life isn't as wonderful . It's a different world for them over any other race.
So far, it's better than Wheel and GoT for me. Why do shows need to pile on the emotion every episode? This one, I can tell, will pay off in the end and be that much more impactful.
