This show is another one of those cartoons trying to replicate the "quirky adventure" model ripped straight from shows like Wakfu, and avatar the last airbender. there's so many characters that feel like bootleg versions of avatar characters especially only they aren't as charming.
If you've watched any show before you can predict nearly everything that happens as stuff is introduced. boy meets meet girl, second season, they fall in love. a king is considering between good and evil, sides with evil. two girls are rivals at first, become allies, then lovers. Big tough man tells your courageous girl to stay at home, she doesn't listen and leaves anyway.
Imagine the show thinks you got the brain of a 4 year old and know nothing about writing, thus anything and everything that could be built up is immediately explained to you through hilariously blatant exposition as its happening. Everything just kinda happens and everyone rolls with it so the plot doesn't stop. Your better off starting from the third season since they're more than happy to remind to you like you spent the last 2 seasons with your head in the microwave.
the animation is jarring and stiff, I can only hope the animators never animated before and this was just meant to be the sacrificial lamb that let them gain experience. because everyone looks like their bones are cracking whenever they move. It slightly improves as the seasons go, but character don't fully move, only their hinges move some and everything else just kinda follows (shoulders, and kneecaps). Team fortress 2 runs better than animation department here.
background don't look good either half the time, you'll see a horse walking over a hill and it looks as the hill is weirdly slanted and the horse was just left there to be copy pasted and someone forgot to level it out. depth perception a thing and it shows.
Even when a big fantasy war scene breaks out, even though a camera angle will change, they background soldiers fighting are copy and pasted everywhere. I watched to main characters fight as the same generic sword and axe wielding soldiers ran by behind them identically 4 times in the span of 15 seconds.
The humor only comes off as ironic enjoyment due to how forced all the jokes sound. I had more fun calling sorin' bootleg saka, cause that's all he tries to be with some added "I was a bully! but now, I've learned humility!"
voice acting is bland, as though none of the voice actors really had prep time for all the fantasy names that are presented here and just awkwardly pause before saying any of them. Half of them can't even seem to tell how to make a character sound frustrated either since a lot of them have different accents and trying to way that in its like someone else is in the voicing booth with them and they just feel awkward getting to into character due to how quickly they're expected to have all these emotions so it doesn't come out good.
of all the netflix exclusive stuff i've heard, this has been by far the worst.Your time is better spent elsewhere.
