What makes Lain is how it goes about presenting its narrative, not through exposition nor any real dialogue, but through vague symbolism and gorgeous visuals, and if you like your media to be intellectually challenging then there are few better works than Lain. My only real complaint is the a little too conclusive and shut-case ending as I feel it ruins the vagueness of it all and if you're very attentive leaves little to interpretation when it comes to the over-arcing message behind the series. What I'm trying to say is that once understood it's actually much more straightforward than it would have you believe at first. Still it's a masterfully crafted one of a kind and for that I can't imagine anything else taking its place or filling that void. Thus I'll have to give Lain a 10/10, 5/5

If you set out to do something, you better do it good. Weather or not people will resonate with it is dependent on the person, but if you've stayed true to what you wanted to make, people whos interests align with yours will seek it and hopefully find it. To make myself clear and be less pretentious about it; when it comes to being sad, depressing, and philosophical Texhnolyze is as good as they come. It serves its purpose very well and if you're into that sort of stuff this is definitely a must watch. 10/10, 5/5
