As someone who has never read Bram Stoker’s “Dracula”, I wasn’t sure what to expect coming into this new series from BBC/Netflix.
Three episodes? What gives? The first episode had me at the edge of my seat, lusting for more and more without delving so far into fantasy-land that I was unable to stay focused. The second episode harnessed my emotions and had me rooting for characters I knew wouldn’t make it off the Demeter. Finally, although a fitting finale for a show not wishing to renew for a second season, it just didn’t make sense. This era of self-absorption was portrayed perfectly here, but having The Count ride the tech train just wasn’t doing it for me.
All-in-all, I give it four stars, because for someone like myself that doesn’t know the entire history or backstory to Dracula, it was one of the more enjoyable series to watch recently on Netflix...well, at least for the first three hours.
