I watched the first 3 episodes. I could not go on. I find this show extremely corny and forced. The acting is terribly overdone. Many of the actors on this show are good actors, so I am putting it on the director.
I'm over the "hair is your crown" narrative of the main character. It is cringey. Countless black women take pride in their hair and know their hair whether is be natural, relaxed, or weaved. It is such a dated concept. Was the show written 10 years ago?
I am also not clear on the ages of these characters. I think they said in episode 2 that Yaya's character was born in 1994 or around that time, but she has a daughter that looks to be around 18. What?
I'm ready to see black people as regular people! There does not always have to be ridiculous drama and "intrigue". It's time for black creators to make shows in the same vein as Parenthood, Brothers & Sisters, and (dare I say) This is Us. Can we start being real people on tv instead of over the top caricatures? It does NOTHING for us. There are so many high quality white dramas on tv. Why can't black dramas be the same?
Yaya needs to go back to Chicago Med and Morris needs to head back on over to Chastain. They are short-staffed. LOL
