Just got done watching it and I feel like I just fell for a bait and switch.
The description states that its a movie about "An American platoon stationed in the Middle East thrust into battle with a breed of tentacles aliens whose rapid spread threatens human survival." That is the movie I wanted to watch. This movie has nothing to do with that.
I honestly don't even know why the monsters were in it. At no point were the monsters hostile or even threatening. They weren't even a significant part of the movie.
This movie is really about the deterioration of the human mind in war, and it doesn't even portray that in a way that you really care. Theres no real emotional connection to the characters, so you don't really care if and when they die. There's a lot of drawn-out scenes that feel like they're intentionally wasting your time. Throughout the movie, you'll feel very confused, bored or annoyed.
While their scripts are garbage, the acting is very good. If this movie was depicted as the struggle of soldiers in warfare and didn't even include the monsters, I wouldn't feel so let down in my expectations.
In short,
-the monsters looked cool, but were overall insignificant to the movie
-the acting was on point, but the script and storyline was garbage
-the movie is a bad drama disguised as an action thriller and fails to deliver
Could've been really cool. Very disappointing.
