I was gripped, immersed and
astonished by the gut-wrenching realism of this movie. War zone imagery nightmarish, even surreal, but totally convincing. The camera goes on the journey close-up with Blake and Schofield from trench into nomansland and beyond. Don't know if that's new, but it works brilliantly here, you're right there in the thick of it. This is a serious movie with a big message about the horrors of war, but also the camaraderie that survives it. An astonishing directorial achievement by Sam Mendes. Feel like I know a lot better what that terrible war looked and felt like now - thanks Sam
