First half of the movie, four stars! Strong start with a lot of room for a great twisted thriller, really got my expectations up, and the actors did a great job. I read some of the bad reviews and was thinking, "how could they get it so wrong?". I came to see Dinklage and Pike and wasn't disappointed. Weist is outstanding too.
Second half of the movie.... one star isn't low enough. Minus three? It was TERRIBLE. I foolishly sat through it on the promise of the beginning of the film. It was as if we were meant to forget everything we had seen so far, every character did a one eighty, and when calculating Marla suddenly starts channeling Jason Bourne, it isn't funny, surprising, or satisfying in any way. It is just bad. Very, very bad, with an even worse ending.
This is another film that divides "woke" critics, who somehow seem to think it is a "girl power" film, from everyone else, hence the huge ratings differences between the audiences, that generally hated it, and the promoters trying to prop it up.
If you sometimes love films that everyone else hates, go for it, maybe this will be your cup of tea, but I like a lot of stuff that flies under the radar, which is why I checked this one out, and it definitely wasn't mine.
