I really enjoyed this series, as 'real' as any reality series could be. I do want to respond to those who felt that Lauren (w/ Cameron) was a bit too obsessed with the 'race' issue.
I'll just impart that I can totally relate. Dispite the growth that has developed with race relations, it's still a HUGE factor for many of us. As a woman of color (Brazilian/Black) with a strong upbringing of all my people's history/culture, it is difficult to not seriously consider how that background may impact my relationship with whom I choose to love.
I still find myself in situations where my race is front and center of circumstances which still shock me. Believe me it's there and it exist. Thinking it's not an issue is very naive.
My partner is actually Asian and let me tell you that adds another whole lot of craziness where his culture and family expectations are involved ... as well as mine. It's been a learning curve for both of us and sometimes we have even realized that we ourselves, despite our love for each other, have our own misinformed, misguided opinions about each other's races.
What has worked for us is what I love about this show. COMMUNICATION IS KEY. No matter how hard the conversation may be the fact that we care enough about each other to keep the lines of communication and understanding open is HUGE!
I wish the best for all the persons/couples, because no matter how crazy the environment is in which people meet ... true, meaningful love is beautiful and worthwhile. XOXO
I'll end this with no matter this reality show.. most folks don't look as lovely as these folks, so how real can it be. Of course we are all attracted to pretty things but the concept that this is 'real' as far as average ppl looks are considered is pretty funny in my book...
