Manifest is a perfect example of a show that should have embraced the sentiment that “less is more.”
With far too much fluff and too little meat, this is a show with an interesting premise that sadly falls severely short of its potential. It has been painfully stretched across four seasons when it really should have been finished in one.
Lacking direction and propulsion, Manifest distracts its audience from its superficially complex main storyline yet thoroughly hollow execution with an unrelenting barrage of excessive, irrelevant sub-plots and an overabundance of melodrama. Eventually, it fully loses sight of the pilot’s setup and makes the unfortunate transformation from authentic supernatural sci-fi thriller to unoriginal detective drama.
With poor acting and boring cinematography, Manifest makes sure to seal its casket as a remarkably dull show that killed an unfortunately promising premise.
