I can say with complete honesty that this was the worst book I have ever read. I had seen the musical (which, by the way, was a beautifully written production that was clearly well thought out), and thought I'd give the book a try. This was a mistake. I knew the story was bound to be a bit different, but what I discovered was completely unexpected. This book cannot even be compared to the much superior stage adaptation. The story made no sense and was hard to follow--many things happened for no reason. There were a few chapters where I thought it was leading up to something interesting, but all of the sudden it completely changed topic and never mentioned the said event again. Nearly all of the issues were left unresolved. The characters had little development and weak motivation and their personalities are either obnoxious or inconsistent. Would not recommend.
