I wanted to like this movie, even a 10th of how much I loved Citizen Kane and Hollywood, but it was really hard to identify or find any redeeming qualities in the main characters. Maybe that was the point.
Though well, acted, as Gary Oldman always does, the main character just wasn't likable. Was he witty? Yes. Was he smart, yes? But he didn't have a heart or seem to care about much other than himself. Oh sure, he did ask a security guard for a dollar so he could give it to an old, poor friend.
There were beautiful scenes in Mank. The fella who plays Orson Wells hit it out of the park.
Jumping from past to present didn't work as well as the director or editor thought it would. Just kind of took you out of the story.
Anyway, that's my two cents.
