This movie has quite a bit of similar elements to Boy Band in its plot, setting, and soundtrack. In summary, Court Logan is on his way to his uncle, played by Ray Harley, for an annual reunion in Vermont. While driving through the Green Mountains, Court's car breaks down. Rather than call for roadside assistance, Court makes the questionable decision to call his uncle. Ray instructs Court to call Ray's partner Barry to pick him up. Unfortunately, Court's phone either dies or loses reception. It's unclear which of the two occurred. Regardless, Court chooses to walk over to Ray's, hoping to get to the reunion in time. This is where we see a striking resemblance to Boy Band. Court's walk through the path along with the accompanying music is an almost identical shot for shot recreation of Steve Rambo's predicament in Boy Band. Steve's car also broke down and he too chose to not call roadside assistance but instead speak with Nance Freely played by Sharon Kane. I think the reasoning behind this may be due to the fact that director Josh Eliot shot Boy Band and Vermont Reunion in 2002. Due to this, Eliot consciously reused locations and music to save money and time for filming. As Court makes his journey to the reunion, Ray Harley and this guy named Vito do some errands around time. They return to Ray's home and perform coitus with each other. Later on, we get two farmer dudes who reminisce about last year's reunion, urging one another to work faster in order to get to Ray's faster. We then see Court urinating over a pond in the forest, attracting the attention of the park ranger. The ranger offers Court to let him go in exchange for oral sex. Court is hesitant at first and states he has money to give. But as the officer says, "I don't want your money. I just want your mouth on my big dick.". to which Court replies with such enthusiasm, "Whip it out." To absolutely no one's surprise, the officer ends up arresting Court anyway, prolonging his trip even longer. Back to the farm, one of the farmer dudes becomes erect to which his partner gets on his knees and provides oral sex. Lastly, Robert Black, who looks like a completely different person with a mustache, is also on his way to the reunion, but before he goes he needs his cock sucked. He approaches a tourist from New York played by Aaron Tanner. Black informs Tanner that the dunes are nearby to which Black obligies and the two walk to the dunes for sex. The film ends with an orgy, common in many Catalina films. Everyone goes home while Ray and Barry get it on.
Vermont Reunion suffers from a predictable plot and a narrative that arguably drags for too long. The film is not dynamic in any way and thus the characters feel like copies of each other with no distinctive personalities. The cast ranges from household names such as Ray Harley to irrelevant actors like Leo Tanner, who admittedly did a good job portraying the park ranger. The inconsistency of quality actors prevents the film from being another Thrill Me or Catalinaville. At least in those films, even if the actors were not too well known, each one of them displayed a keen sense of uniqueness that is sadly not exhibited in Vermont Reunion. Steve is not like Ray, Doug is not like Rick, etc. These factors prevent me from rating the film anything higher than 3 stars. Vermont Reunion is a middle of the road movie. It's not terrible nor is it amazing. It's just okay. I would still recommend watching it.
