It took a few weeks for us to receive this book and after reading it, I understand why it was out of stock. What an insightful, multifaceted, and comprehensive analysis on both current issues and potential solutions American innovation faces. We thought a blended review would bring generational differences into focus. Hence, Ms. Milani, who is entering medical school, would team with someone with four decades of medical experience. Our reviews were amazingly congruent. This book will appeal to almost any industry that faces the daunting challenges of innovation and leadership. It offers a blueprint for economic prosperity that is applicable to leaders, academics, researchers, engineers, and others in leadership positions. In the first section of the book, “The Problem,” the authors touch on the unorganized approach to innovation that lacks prioritization and planning, which is rooted in America’s history of corporations & universities and erroneous assumptions about both innovation and the economy. In its second part, “The Solution,” it emphasizes three main points: channeled curiosity, boundary-breaking collaboration, and orchestrated commercialization. Albeit simple, these ideas are innovative in and of themselves and can be applied to virtually all businesses, academic institutions, and governments. In addition, the authors provided ample evidence & research to qualify their claims and add depth to their ideas. Lastly, in the third part of the book, “The Prescription,” they offer tangible steps to take and concrete policies to implement for our country’s ensured success. Also, what we found to be particularly refreshing was the inclusion of a bipartisan plan for maximizing return on investment in research funding. The authors elaborated on the notion that US policymakers and legislators can play a role in shaping the current economic climate, a cogent focus, by harvesting a better return on government research investments.
Overall, this is a must read for anyone remotely interested in innovation on any level and anyone who is invested in our country’s continued prosperity. A well written and pragmatic book with objective, scholarly research methods that also inspires new ways of thinking about America's advancement! This book adds, via its novel insights and lucidly written text, a new way of structuring our progress that will make it an invaluable inclusion on anyone’s reading list.
