Honestly, I’ve played Fatal Frame’s 1-3 and I felt that of all of them, this fatal frame has a refreshing storyline that really got my attention. Instead of the typical cult, human sacrifice story, we get ourselves a suicidal mentality and depression elements added into the story which allowed the players to really empathise with the characters.
The gameplay is also a refreshing style too.. instead of the usual using the toggle stick to move your camera, we have motion sensors now using the switch.. I admit it’s a bit clonky at times but I thoroughly enjoyed it because it made me feel like I actually held the camera to beat the ghosts! To really get the feeling, i went outside at night playing the game and using the motion sensors, god that gave me a fright 😂
Another refreshing mechanic is the fatal touch which allowed us to see what we’re the ghosts last moments before they died so that’s a nice added element to the game which allowed me to add more fun to the game since the ghosts aren’t just enemies to kill, they’re also a story content for players to indulge their curiosity about the ghosts story.
But the downside is that the battle felt repetitive and I’ve been fighting similar ghosts too many times that it got boring.. I kinda wish they made more of that scary tall lady ghost.. man she was scary.. other than that.. they’re meh.. another one is that the censorship was kinda unnecessary because most of the players are adults so it shouldn’t matter..
Overall, I’d still give this game a 5 star since the story is the main reason I play fatal frame.. and this story is a cherry on top for me. It’s emotionally well done and having multiple characters to play with to see why they’re necessary to the story is a nice touch!
Well done! Will look forward to more fatal frames in the future!
