I, personally, loved this game all the way through. I have went through and read all the negative comments, and most of the positive ones. I agree with both sides of the take. I, however, have a very open mind to how the layout of the game played through.
On a positive note, the game doesn’t let you grasp too tightly to ANY of the main characters. Or any new ones, at that. This, to me, brings the full effect of a post-apocalyptic world into a realists perspective. Meaning...people die, and there’s nothing you can really do to stop that.
Some of the comments I read dealt with how “Joel was dumbed down” and made it easier, in a sense, to accept what happened to him. In reality, it’s like I said, people die. It is an apocalypse, for Gods sake.
Negatively, I feel the layout of the missions could have been better laid out. Maybe, instead of starting as Ellie and trying to further her fan love; introduce with Abby and build a more sturdy foundation for her reasoning behind her actions. I loved Joel as much as the next guy, but he did some questionable things that we didn’t know about until we witnessed Abby’s side of the story. If the game would have led with Abby finding her dad dead by the hands of Joel, and built further into Abby’s storyline, the game might not have left so many players so unsatisfied with it.
In the end, you have to look at the main moral of the story, in which I believe is revenge will only bring forth more pain in the end. The old saying, “an eye for real an eye makes the whole world blind” plays a huge role in this game. I hope you read this and make haste to your play through of the game with an open mind and pay no mind to either the good or the bad comments on this game. Because in the end, they’re all just personal opinions.
