It’s rancid. The acting is bad, and I can’t be too upset with the actors because they’re set up with bad writing. When they’re outside, it looks like they have indoor lighting on them. The staging is stagnant and unnatural. The costuming is, well, costume-y. The wigs are obviously bad. I am trying very hard to find some positive things to appreciate, but they’re too few and far between. Gran-gran’s veneers were distracting, and the cgi of June hopping off her shirshu was one of many poorly rendered technical moments. I honestly wouldn’t have minded the many storyline changes if they had everything else nailed, but they don’t. For example, having the secret tunnel from season 2 of the original show intertwined in this first season with only Sokka and Katara in the cave of “two lovers” was just uncomfortable. Also, Koh didn’t snatch the faces of the people who clearly had an emotional reaction to him. I mean, they’re not even following their own changed plots very well. I could go ON and ON, but I really need to stop. It’s sadly a failure to me 😢
