Mortal Kombat is franchise known for its unique line of Characters and their stories. The insertion and centralization of focus on the arch of Cole Young robs the other Mortal Kombat characters from the spotlight. Young was an unecessary addition to the movie; not only because he was never in any of the series’ main line of games. He is flat character who gets everything handed to him and has very few lines and memorable moments. People want the focus to be on established characters because the movie is based on an established franchise. It’s only common sense Young gets more screentime than all the beloved fighters (even Scorpion and Sub-Zero). Movies that disservice the fanbase like this don’t deserve a sequel...

I don’t understand why this movie gets so much scrutiny, the buildup of the characters and their demise were devastating but completely necessary to give the audience a much needed glimmer of despair. In addition to this, it raises the stakes for our heroes to stop the evil mutants. The line of the younger X-Men could have had more of a role in this however; but either way the story was well written and action packed. Sadly, the original story if the X-Men trilogy would be ruined by later installments from this franchise. X4 and beyond could have been something special.
