Zachary L. Zavidé (Zack)

i'm reviewing it here as I saw the play at the Old Vic (I haven't read the book). I loved the play; it was gripping, immersive and emotive. It had very relatable elements and transported you to a long lost era - it also demonstrated how solidary and upward mobility (in an African-American context) has to be tentatively constructed amidst extraordinarily societal and political pressures otherwise. I'm a huge fan of August Wilson's plays (the performance of Ma Rainey's black bottom is seared into my soul) and I hadn't been to the theatre in ages but it was a wonderful serendipitous encounter (I had been staring at the Old Vic the week before thinking it would be worth watching). Go watch it!
