Yuck! 🤢 Parallel to A Shakespeare for Dummies version AT BEST. Dialogue wasn't just missing to help the movie along (which can be forgiven from time to time) but worse TOTALLY REWRITTEN in parts, it's a crime!!! 😡 Anyone who really appreciates the true emotions evoked by Shakespeare's writting would be horrified! This is not Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, it has the same storyline but not the unique beauty and passion.
Boring, stale acting with no intensity and it seems as though the actress playing Juliet had no idea how to deliver Shakespeare and was very 1 note.(although I imagine this falls on the director) 🥱
It made me feel so icky that I had to turn it off after 30 minutes and rewatch a different version.
I have read in some reviews that this is the version being shown to educate teenagers, how tragic that they will never know the true beauty behind Shakespeare. Disgrace 🤮
The 1 star is for Douglas, he actually had good potential to be a pretty decent Romeo. However everything else in the movie was working against him. No amount of good acting could make-up for the poor directing and total lack of of chemistry between the leads. Hailee literally sounds like she's reading Juliet's part out loud in an high school English class.
