If you like an overblown misery memoir you will love this book. I couldn't finish it, the exaggerated, flowery prose was a mixture of ridiculous and boring. I was hoping for an interesting account of life on a small island, I didn't get it with this book.

Managed to get to the end as it was easy to whizz through but didn't really enjoy this book, good premise disappointingly executed. Didn't even raise a smile never mind "laugh out loud" and overall I felt it was poorly written. I was glad when I finished it.

Absolutely brilliant read, a real page turner, gripping from page one. Tightly plotted with fantastic characters I really enjoyed this book. This was a recommendation from BBC "between the covers" otherwise I don't think I would have picked it up, so glad I did, loved it.
