It’s a fantastic show, and I genuinely believe people are being too harsh in judging it as a creative adaptation. Brian Young, the creator and showrunner of Fate, who was also a writer for The Vampire Diaries, did for this what was done for TVD. Major creative changes that flow, that work, and overtime create an amazing story with characters having deep, emotional arcs. For example, Bonnie in TVD who became a fan favorite, was initially criticized for not being cast and kept as the red haired girl with druidic ancestry as she was in the books.
I watched all of TVD and still to this day view it as having some of the best character growth and emotional moments that have held up over the years compared to many of the newer, flashier TV shows coming out. I could see the same beginning to develop in Fate: TWS. Although the cast is large, nearly all of them got enough screen time in the first season, fleshing out their unique personalities and making the audience sympathize and care about them.
That said, if you’re perpetually making comparisons in your mind on how you think it should be vs enjoying it for what it actually is—you’ll likely miss out on the well-written, directed, cast, and overall visuals of this beautifully crafted modern day epic fantasy.
Please give it a try and drop all expectations going into it. Fate: The Winx Saga has become my favorite fantasy genre show that has been released within the past few years, and for good reason. 9/10.
