I came to this movie cold. I love Bill Murray but I could not have picked Scarlet out of a line up of one. I’ve read some reviews only after viewing the movie. I’ma but turn on how many starts at the moment. I see many 5’s and some scattered 1-4’s. I like a thoughtful movie. One with no action shots. I don’t care for lots of crying ( Steel Magnolias). Somewhere in the middle. This does hit somewhere in the middle.
Full disclosure, I related to Bill Murray more. I’m a middle aged man. I did enjoy the chance of perspective of his character. I can see the thoughts not voiced. He’s thinking “this could be wonderful to spend life with this young woman. If she’d only come along 25 years ago… but I have a life. You can’t go back. I can’t go back. But of the wonders of what if’s. “ I feel that he might take this memory with him for the rest of his life as a happy time. I age so many other thought to project, but I think you get the idea.
Scarlet on the other hand, I don’t have any real idea what she’s thinking. However I do believe that there are women who relate to her and see this movie through her eyes.
We both get to make our own endings. We both know what was whispered in her ear at the conclusion but it was definitely not the same. I think that makes this a five star. To have faith in the viewer to make the right choice for them. I’ll not say what I heard in the whisper. That’s for me. But, I might remember this one for a long time.
