There Is little doubt that this a true master work created by a master of film making, and a almost uncanny evocation of the atmosphere and people of the place it was made. That it moves along at a place utterly contra to the slam bang movies he saw being made then demonstrates his love of his craft and his independence. Yes, it is ponderous and occasionally boring when his vignettes and character portraits are interspersed a meticulous development that could not be plotted out. So one gets a bit antsy. One suspects the film would be an excellent method of testing what kind of viewer is reacting to it, no test is required classifying it as a classic beyond the reach of most directors. And I did not "like" it as entertainment, I was in awe of its quality and sensiblity.
