Speaks to the conflation of sports and public safety and the military in the USA. Certainly one of the reasons I do not watch or get caught up in the football mania prevalent today. I am especially interested in his views on the presence of police at sporting events: whether it be in a made up public safety role or as part of a night honoring public safety. The latter seems especially prevalent in the nearly all white NHL and my state's Boston Bruins camps and hockey puck dropping events. My only disagreement is with the disconnect between his views on unions and the strength of public safety unions and their connections to politicians. It seems to me that advocacy for public unions demonstrates some ignorance of the strength of public safety unions and their impact on local budgets and local culture which diminishes free speech and dissent. Looking locally is important to understanding the bigger picture.
