Brian Villers

The story has a lot of promise but doesn't deliver. Watching this movie is like sitting in the middle seat while the plane waits on the tarmac for 88 minutes and then pulls back into the gate.

One of the best war films in a very long time. "1917" isn't particularly graphic and it doesn't need to be. The single shot cinematography is highly effective in portraying the plight of the two main characters. Thomas Newman's score is outstanding and reminiscent of his score for "The Shawshank Redemption" in the emotions it invokes. Highly recommend this movie.
