It was one helluva a ride! I thought of Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer & Huck Finn, the kids from Our Gang, the Little Rascals, the boys in "Stand by Me." Each person was an individual with his/her unique voice. It was magical story telling. I live in Kansas so I know Salina and the landscapes of the Great Plains. I know the wonder of driving across the country as our family vacations in the 50s & 60s were achieved in a big station wagon. The excitement of plotting a course to a specific destination, counting the miles and seeing the sights is all here in "The Lincoln Highway." But mostly it's the stories you tell along the way and the adventures you share that matter most. I cried several times from the poignancy and the tragedy. I would read it again and recommend it to all.
