I was impressed with the series. I learned quite a bit about the history of life on the planet, the catastrophic events that occurred during the timelines laid out. When you consider the timeline they're covering-750 billion years--it's a bit mind boggling compared to your own personal lifetime. It was interesting to watch how the various plant and animal species evolved and the significance of the inter relationship between the two.
Some people may have gotten confused periodically as they moved back and forth between the timeline, rather than simply progressing in a linear fashion. However, once you got the connectivity involved, it all made sense. I also realize some people simply won't grasp the principles involved and that's ok. We all have different skills and talents and the that's what makes the world go round. If you like to learn, and you keep your eyes and ears open, you'll pick up quick a bit.
