A Kaleidoscopic Look Into A World Viewed Through A Unique And Brilliant Mind.
I loved this book! I laughed, I learned, I returned to the 60's and yearned for more. A boomer coming of age through a schizoid's eyes. Nostalgic hippies, get out your lava lamps as "A Schizoid at Smith" should be on your required reading list.
Beyond the fun time travel, I felt the author's dignified struggle and left with far more understanding and compassion for the "different."
I enjoy reading books that take me somewhere I've never been, this book fulfills that promise. Blair uses sentences like word collages to reconfigure the reality we all share. I couldn't say if her remarkable capacity with language is a part of this condition or the product of a magnificent and new writing talent but in either case, I believe Blair Sorrel sees prose like Kim Peek (the character of Raymond Babbitt in Rain Man) sees numbers. She weaves words into elaborate and improbable constructions that somehow and unexpectedly always balance and tally. As all great books should do, this work will add to your perception, augment the world you live in, and take you somewhere you've never been.
Reading Blair Sorrel's memoir was like taking a tour through an exotic emotional ecosystem that evolved independently while the rest of us were distracted living ordinary lives. Hop aboard for a once in a lifetime journey not to be missed! And you will return from the trip refreshed, exhilarated, and undoubtedly more insightful.
