The enormity of the imagination at play in The Subtle Knife is inexplicably wondrous, while the prose itself is rich and resplendent. Pullman is in complete control of the epic story he set out to tell in The Northern Lights, and even as it traverses three (or more) different universes, Pullman never falters. Brimming with action and emotion in equal parts, The Subtle Knife is a stunning sequel and I daresay I enjoyed it more than its acclaimed predecessor.
