Unlike many negative reviews here, I'm not going to pretend to speak for any amount of audience. I find that ridiculous and an attempt to elevate your opinions to anything above what they are: your opinions. I'm also not going to pretend any lack of knowledge about the greater lore written by Tolkien is an indication of the writers not sticking to the lore.
The first two episodes were beautifully done, and had me jumping for joy when one of the three migratory precursor races to hobbits popped up on screen! The attention to detail and lore is something to be greatly appreciate, if youve actually taken the time to look into the lore & world building, instead of simply repeating what you think you recall the lore being after watching the LoTR trilogy a few times through.
This show takes place thousands of years before the Hobbit, which took place 60 years before LoTR. This is not a piece of media by Peter Jackson, and shouldn't be exactly the same as those LoTR movies. I dont want to spoil any of the story, but it looks to be shaping up to something very interesting after only two episodes. If you have access to the show, and like high fantasy, check it out. There are a lot of undertones hit by the writers and actors that inform the way the world and its societies function and interact.
Just remember, take all the 1 star reviews youre seeing with a large grain of salt. They seem to largely be inspired by misunderstanding of the greater lore, and an affinity for Peter Jacksons LoTR trilogy. As good as those movies were at the time, this isn't them. Nor is it trying to be.
