Disclaimer: Im only through the second level of the preacher.
This game is seriously fantastic. Although this review will be pretty opinionated, I would rate this game a 10/10.
The storyline is compelling and actually gives you a reason to continue playing. Learning about the marshal and attempting to draw your own conclusions through the gameplay is easy on the gamer and exciting. Little additions like the lost souls, the witch, the bartender, etc. all add to the disconnected yet interesting story.
The fighting mechanics are spot on. I don't remember selecting a difficulty, but I don't really feel the need to. The opposition is pretty balanced and makes fighting truly fun. You want to go to the next room just to see how well you can perform against the enemy.
The fact that you "reset" is something I'm assuming most gamers don't like about this one. I, on the other hand, love that mechanic. The game forces you to take control of your character and build him up as powerful as possible and NOT DIE. The fact that it brings you back to a starting point just emulsifies the fact that you need to get used to the game quick, however, there is room for error.
I don't play a lot of games like this but I'm absolutely captivated by it.
