When did you last see a viking movie ! films about this period in time simply aren't made anymore, that is until now, having seen both the Witch and the Lighthouse, director Robert Eggers two previous offerings and enjoying both enormously I was looking forward to the Northman and wasn't disappointed. Although quite long I found the story gripping and the movie well acted throughout. For what is a very imaginative project with an enormous attention to detail I thought the film was generally well executed and both a brave and refreshing attempt to create something just a little bit different from the norm. I would thoroughly recommend especially in 4k and on a large screen to appreciate this epic and visually stunning movie. With a great soundtrack, some glorious scenery and brutally realistic fight sequences the film simply takes you back to a time gone by for two hours of pure escapism.
