The title says "Aladdin" but in reality the movie is about elevating Jasmine and making her the real hero. If that was the intention of the producers of this movie then they ought to have given it the title "Jasmine." The movie didn't make sense to me on those grounds. Hollywood seems to be desperate to promote the idea of equality of the sexes even in fairy tales. They didn't like the original cartoon movie where the Sultan changes the law from "a princess could only marry a prince" to "a princess could marry whosoever she deemed worthy." In the original Disney cartoon movie Jasmine deemed Aladdin worthy because his actions proved that he was a diamond in the rough. He might have looked unworthy on the outside (street rat) but his love was true and princely. But in this movie Aladdin's status is relegated to second position. And by doing that the movie makers have stripped Aladdin of his quality as diamond in the rough. The focus is more on Jasmine as if to say, "Hurrah for girl power!!"
The only thing that saved this movie from total disaster (in my opinion) was Will Smith.
