To think this is what the BBC is offering as its first autumn blockbuster mini series of 2024. To think they’ve spent all that taxpayers’ money on such a comically dreadful piece of pap. I don’t know where to start. It’s kind of Nancy Drew meets Doctor Who meets Enid Blyton. Another reviewer said Alexandra Roach as Abby was more like a nursery school teacher, her voice devoid of the authority that would be necessary in a position of seniority like hers. That’s a good call but doesn’t go anywhere near describing how bad Roach is. Massively over-acting as the heroine, utterly unconvincing. And the flirting down the phone with Joe was just toe curling. I think she said “let’s do this” three times. Just once would have made it a terrible cliché alone. Beyond appalling

Such predictable twists and turns - from the obvious woman walking with her back to camera that you are supposed to believe is Jen with Tasha's baby, to the changing of the locks by Jack on the house. Oooh, didn't see that coming! Tasha's monumental naivety. Hayley's over-the-top nastiness. Sam's Grange Hill-level acting. It's just not very good at all. No wonder Channel 5 picked it up. Just about its level.

Starts interestingly and then descends into just a more gritty Doctor Who. Too long.Could have been done in a tighter, more impactful way in six episodes. Loses its way and, worst of all, it's completely undermined by Stephen Graham's pathetic attempts to hold down a non-Scouse accent - something he fails miserably to do, therefore demonstrating what an inflexible, one-dimensional and rather poor actor he is. And when I see an apparently dead character, embraced by his son, blinking, I then know for sure this is really not very well done.

Very poor indeed. I'm really not sure what all the fuss is about. It's something shallow and one dimensional in all aspects - something that's really not very good, dressed up and hyped to be something deep, meaningful and suspenseful. It simply isn't. The characters are no more than sketches, as are most of the relationships between them. I stuck it out for the six episodes, hoping it would get better but, trust me, it doesn't. And Doherty is just irritating as an actor. She only has one way of acting. And at no point did I sympathise with her. She didn't take me at all into her world. And that's the actor's fault.
