I cannot rate this show highly enough, but I'm here to leave a 1* review so those who come to this section before watching a show to assess its quality get a more balanced opinion.
My first issue with a lot of the 1* reviews here, is the fact that they seem to completely misunderstand the characters and plot of this show. Moira is a highly talked about character in these reviews. Her voice is brought up a lot, mainly her accent and how it's fake and how she moves in and out of it. While it may come across as bad acting to some people who haven't paid much attention to the show, this is in fact a fun dig at her character. She is a Soap opera Actress who's day time fame has gotten to her head and her rather pretentious and fake accent reflects this. Instead of being poor acting, it seems to be a much more entertaining way to poke fun at the fact her acting skills are not all they are made out to be despite her evident popularity in this fictional world. My next point of contention is the comments made about the two children, Alexis and David. I too when I first watched the show, found these two to be unbearable. They can come off as entitled, snobby and rude. However, I came to love these two sheltered and previously incredibly wealthy adults so much by the final season. Despite their obtuse personalities and dispositions at the beginning of the show, they grow into genuinely good human beings and their character development is stark, intricate and entertaining from start to finish.
This show is by no means infallible, there are certainly some awkward interactions and definitely a couple of jokes that don't land. But every show has that. There is no perfect show, and there will never be a show that pleases eveyone. But I would say that this show has a lot to offer anyone who watches it. So rather than reading one star reviews that just rant about things that aren't true or write reviews after only watching the first three episodes of the show (and thinking that's enough to go off), watch the show yourself and make your own informed decision. It's not everyones cup of tea, but I think Schitts creek is a beautiful show which has entertainment value, great writing, loveable characters, and an effortless charm that you can't help but lean into.
