Putting the unnecessary political activism included in and associated with the movie aside,
The storyline is well above but most younger children would understand. The story has a number of disconnects when compared to the toy story movie line. I don't want to give too many spoilers away however in toy story 2 zurg is referred to as buzz lightyear's father versus in the movie it's a buzz lightyear from a different timeline. If this is supposed to be the movie that inspired Andy to love buzz lightyear there is not much continuity when comparing it to everything I have seen in the toy story series. Also not having Tim Allen voice buzz is a major distractor. For over 20 years every single buzz clip has used his voice. There were laughable points. If my daughter hadn't been so intent on seeing the movie I could have held off the month or so until it goes to Disney Plus. Overall it's well below what I have come to expect from Pixar studios and it's not surprising that it has epically failed thus far. As expected the animation is beautiful, but the storyline truly lacks and for someone who's been forced to watch the toy stories 1-4, Plus the half hour specials and shorts everyday for over a month leading up to this ( because my daughter was so excited to watch it) the inconsistencies really were obvious to the point where it actually overwhelmed some of my enjoyment.
