Honestly, this was the best celebration of a character I’ve ever seen on film. Not that it wasn’t well deserved or a surprise, but the finale of the movie and the dowager’s life was an emotional triumph. The story allowed her loved ones to see her for all that she was and the legacy she leaves to the family. She was the kind of person that was left a villa in the South of France and countless love letters long after parting from her amor and having her husband’s son. It was especially wonderful that the story allowed every character to say goodbye in a way true to their personality. My tears rolled from the moment she passed until the ending credits. To quote Isobel, Brava, Violet. You will truly be missed. Hats off to the incomparable, Maggie Smith. Love, love, loved it!
