Overall, this is an excellent book. The characters are interesting and well written with very natural dialog. The setting is well designed and interesting. And the story is generally well told, with some excellent twists and just enough foreshadowing to clue the audience in.
But, it suffers from two particular flaws. One is that this book is OBSESSED with sex. I'm sure the author was trying to make a point about how rare intimacy is in a world that promotes unattached sex, but by the end of chapter 8 I was so very tired of hearing the words "sex" and "promiscuous." And that leads into problem number two, a significant problem with telling instead of showing. I don't want to hear someone had an "expensive looking implant," I want you to describe it in such a way that I get the impression it is expensive looking. "Show, don't tell" is a classic writers rule for that exact reason, immersion.
All in all, I liked the book and I loved the ending, so I'll probably be buying the next one in the series.
