My 5 year old niece started the first hour of this movie with where is Ariel! I had tried to keep an open mind for this movie due to the mixed reactions with most of Disney's classic remakes. This movie flopped for me. The CGI was horrible for a movie that came out in 2023!! The music was hacked up into pieces because the vocals were just not it. Melissa McCarthy, who is one of my favorite actresses from Gilmore Girls did a solid acting job but she can not sing at all. Halle's performance lacked both musically and acting. Part of Your World is not a difficult song to sing and she hacked it and made it sound close to a hip hop number with the way she sang the vocals. It didn't flow at all. Sebastian's voice actor, who I did love from other movies, did a racist betrayal of a Jamaican voice. It was awful! Prince Eric's casting was great and he actually could sing. It was the movie's saving grace. Disney doesn't seem to care about quality anymore and its just upsetting. It just felt like they were throwing a bunch of different cultures of people together and didn't care about the quality of the film at all. When a little girl can't even recognize the main character, can we really say Disney did a good job? I want Disney to actually make an effort again!
