The southern Poland countryside near the Slovakia border is simply beautiful. The characters are deep and complicated, and given the context in the story, their behaviors make sense. The acting is equally terrific....I would say astonishing. Yet, in the end, it's obvious that all of these people are stunningly broken, and that it might be best for all of the characters involved (as well as the audience) if you just killed them all off; it's pretty clear that the antagonist (Iwo Elijah) feels the same way. Hopefully this is not "art imitating life" in the Zakopane, Poland area....but if it is, and someone introduces themselves as being from Poland, in the region around Zakopane or Cracow......run.
